Households of Faith – Principals of the Governmental Structure of the Households
Today’s Focus: Feast of Pentecost
Scripture: Exodus 10:9,10; Leviticus 23:15-21
Greetings Kingdom Citizens
The feast of Pentecost is the second feast of the three feasts that will show the governmental structure of the households of faith. The very word Pentecost means 50. The feast of Pentecost happens in the third month and it happens 50 days after firstfruits. Now there is a lot of information that we need to examine to get a clear understanding of Pentecost. Pentecost within the church is mostly associated with the coming of the Holy Spirit and the church speaking in tongues. That is the dominant mindset to Pentecost but let me say that is a very limited view and if that is the only view then there is something we are going to miss in understanding the reality of Pentecost. Do not get me wrong, yes on the day of Pentecost the Holy Spirit endowed the apostles with power and the birth of the church, but there is so much more than that to celebrate and over the next few messages we will examine. The first time people hear about Pentecost they think of Acts 2 but the first mention of Pentecost really is in the Old Testament before Sinai.
Exodus 10:9,10: And Moses said, We will go with our young and with our old, with our sons and with our daughters, with our flocks and with our herds will we go; for we must hold a feast unto the Lord. And he said unto them, Let the Lord be so with you, as I will let you go, and your little ones: look to it; for evil is before you.
The feast spoken here is the feast of Pentecost. Pentecost is associated with unity and liberation. But of course we know Pharaoh would not let them go because had he did it, Pharaoh would have got the glory from Israel and not the God of Israel. For the sake of time Pentecost in the Law of Moses is found in Leviticus 23:15-21. I will explain all the details to it in the subsequent messages but let me show you some parallels to Pentecost that we should know:
The Meaning of Pentecost (Shavout or Feast of Weeks) to the Jews
• It was 50 days from the crossing of the Red Sea to Mt. Sinai
• The Commandments were given
• The Law of God (Yahweh) was written in stone
• 3,000 people were slain for false god worship of Apis (Golden Calf)
The Meaning of Pentecost (Shavout) to the Saints
• It was 50 days from the resurrection of Christ before the disciples received the Holy Spirit in Jerusalem (Acts 2:1-4)
• The Holy Spirit was given
• The Law of God (Yahweh) was written in our hearts
• 3,000 people were baptized and saved (Acts 2:41)
In the next message we will examine principals of Pentecost that are necessary for us to understand so we can experience true Pentecost.
