Understanding the Sabbath
Today’s Focus: Signs of the Sabbath Day: Sight
Scripture: John 9:1-14; Mark 4:24
Greetings Kingdom Citizens
In this story of the man who was blind from birth, we see the disciples trying to find out why this man was blind. They asked did he sin or did his parents sin. Now they ask this understanding the sin is a disease and the way that they knew someone had sin was if a physical disease or condition came upon them. For example, leprosy was the major disease. Now Jesus tells them neither is the case:
John 9:3-5: Neither hath this man sinned, nor his parents: but that the works of God should be made manifest in him. I must work the works of Him that sent me, while it is day: the night cometh, when no man can work. As long as I am in the world, I am the light of the world.
Now Jesus goes and does something totally illogical and in our world “crazy”. The man is already blind, but Jesus spits on the ground and made clay of the spittle and anointed the eyes of the blind man with the clay, and said to him go wash in the pool of Siloam. Now let’s be real with one another, this look crazy, sound crazy but when did God do anything that was logical as it pertained to healings and miracles. These were obvious signs because God wants to let us know that it is solely Him who heals us. But why cover a blinded man’s eyes with clay? What purpose does that serve?
In our natural world nothing but in the realm of the eternal it is to symbolize the closing of the man’s natural eyes and eyes of the soul so that he may clearly see through the eyes of the Spirit. Now why did Jesus tell Him to go to the Pool of Siloam why not the local river or fountain of water, why this one? Because to be healed you must go to a place that produces water that come from the foundations of the mountains. The pool of Siloam gets it’s water from a unique place. There was a tunnel that funneled water from the Mount of Zion to produce water in Jerusalem. We know that Zion is the seat of divine government, the Throne of God and out of that seat flows living water and when we are washed with that water we live and are healed. Now look at the man in verse 7:
John 9:7: And said unto him, Go wash in the pool of Siloam, (which us by interpretation, Sent) He went his way therefore, and washed, AND CAME SEEING.
Now the man goes and shows himself before the people and the people asked how did he receive his sight. He tells them about Jesus and the people take this man to the Pharisees to show them but look at verse 14 and this is the butter on the bread!
John 9:14: And it was the Sabbath day when Jesus made the clay, and opened his eyes.
Does it ever make you think that Jesus did many of his miracles amongst the children of Israel on the Sabbath day and that was a divine design and purpose because in the Sabbath day, one can be healed from all manner of disease but most of all the disease of sin. So the sign of Sabbath rest is that the blinded eyes are opened. We must learn to close our natural eyes (soul) and see through the Spirit. The more we close our eyes the more we can truly see.
Mark 4:24: And he said unto them, Take heed what ye hear: with what measure ye mete, it shall be measured to you: and unto you that hear shall more be given.
In the next message we will look at another sign of Sabbath rest.
