Culture of the Father

Spiritual Concept of Fathers Teaching Children
Today’s Focus: Culture of the Father
Scripture: Deuteronomy 6:1,2

Greetings Kingdom Citizens
When we talk about the culture of the Father we can find two distinct mindsets currently playing out in the age of man. There are those who who grew up in the church, attending Sunday school and modeled the culture of God. However they left the teaching up to the Sunday school, government and public school system. Then there are those whose fathers take an active role in their lives and teach their children about God the Father and model His ways and character so that the children can see God in their parents. In Scripture, God delegated the father the responsibility to teach the children. Because he is head of household, he is ultimately responsible. Does that mean that mother has no responsibility to teach? Of course not, but the ultimate responsibility falls on the father. Children do not look at our rituals that we do for God, they are looking for evidence of God in you. Hence everything you do and say are a witness of God living through you. Now let’s start examining the culture of the father.

Deuteronomy 6:1,2: Now these are the commandments, the statutes and the judgments, which the Lord your God commanded to teach you, that ye might do them in the land whither ye go and posses it: That thou mightiest fear the Lord thy God, to keep all His statutes and commandments, which I command THEE, THOU , AND THY SON, AND THY SON’S SON, ALL THE DAYS OF THY LIFE; AND THAT THY DAYS MAY BE PROLONGED.

The first thing I want to point out here is the fact that God always includes the children. In our current society there is a mindset that the children must find their own way. That is not of God and a doctrine of devils. If this was the case then there is no need for Malachi 4:5,6. The hearts of the sons being turned to the fathers and the heart of the fathers being turned to the sons. Hence there is a order that the Father wants to keep in the earth and that is fathers discipling sons. Now the test of a father is actually seen in the grandchildren or the 3rd generation. Let me explain. The grandfather has no control over the rearing of their grandchildren in the proper sense and context. The only way a grandfather can get to the grandchildren is through His son and or daughter. What does this say. Based upon how you reared the son, the grandchildren will manifest that result. As fathers we are to impart who we are to our children. Hence this is why it is vital for parents to be in the Word and model the culture of the Father within the home and household. If you are not in the Word, how can you impart the Word to your children.

Finally, fathering is not some job that you can retire from when you are ready. Deuteronomy 6:2 says we should teach the commandments and statutes of the Lord to our sons all the days of our lives. Meaning there is no retirement in the House of God. Now are we to bring our children to maturity and then allow the Lord to commission them and send them out? Yes! Does that stop you from being the natural or spiritual father? No!

So when we examine the culture of the Father we see it is parents or spiritual parents modeling the ways and character of the Father and teaching their children about the Father, his commandments and statutes. God has set the fathers over households of faith to bring the children of God to maturity. Let me say this here for the entire series. In as much as these commandments and principals go for the natural family, it is applicable in the spiritual Israel and Household of Faith headed by spiritual fathers.

In the next message we will examine some of the concepts laid out in Scripture of how fathers are to teach the sons.
